Adidas’s New PulseBoost HD Running Shoes Are Designed For City Runners

If you’re the kind of runner who spends all your time pounding busy city pavements, you’ll know that you spend almost as much time moving from side to side as you do running forwards. Avoiding bollards, bins and pedestrians while maintaining your pace requires the agility of a cat and, ideally, a highly stable shoe.

The new Adidas PulseBoost HD has designs on being that shoe. The foot sits closer to the ground than in other Adidas shoes with Boost foam, and the Continental Adaptive Traxion rubber outsole has been designed to provide grip as you move in any direction, no matter how suddenly you have to leap to the side to avoid a dachshund you spotted at the last moment.

Adidas has also tinkered with the formula of its much-loved Boost foam to create Boost HD. This is firmer and denser than the standard foam, again with the aim of providing more stability when you have to jink around corners. On top of this you’ll find an upper made of Adapt Knit, which has been designed to stretch to accommodate your foot no matter what direction you’re moving in.

If this all sounds absolutely essential then let us first suggest it might be worth finding a local park where you can run without the constant worry of crashing into things. If that’s not possible, however, you’ll be wanting to know when the PulseBoost HD launches. The good news is it’s available now! It’ll cost you £119.95. The bad news is it’s only available in one monochrome colourway, but other designs are set to arrive on 27th June.

The PulseBoost HD is a bit of a beast, weighing in at 340g (UK 8.5), so it’s probably not one for PB-seekers – the Adidas Boston 7 or Adios 4 will probably suit you better for that – but it is a good choice if you’re looking for a jack of all trades, with the extra stability well suited to the demands of exercise classes at the gym.

It also comes with a special extra feature we haven’t seen on any other shoe. Scan the QR code on the tongue and it will bring up a custom playlist for wherever you are in the world.
