While the Series 4 is now the newest but one, the differences between it and the recently-released Series 5 are smaller than you might expect. The Series 5 adds an always-on screen, very useful when you’re running or cycling and want to glance at your stats, but not the major upgrade the Series 4 was compared with the Series 3. The Series 4 also runs the latest watchOS so you won’t miss out on any future software improvements.
The Series 4 was the first Apple Watch to nail heart rate tracking when exercising and it was the first consumer tracker to offer the ability to take an electrocardiogram (ECG). That means you can set the Watch to take periodic measurements and flag an irregular heartbeat. If it finds one, it’s certainly something to raise with your GP who can conduct further tests.
As long as you’re an iPhone user, the Apple Watch is simply the best smartwatch, offering genuinely useful services like keeping electronic versions of tickets to hand and making contactless payments. It’s also a top-notch fitness tracker, and while its native software may not be the match of a specialist like Garmin, you’ll find a third-party app to suit your needs in the well-stocked App Store.
