Don’t Let Seasonal Affective Disorder Ruin Your Winter

Everyone is affected by the arrival of winter, but while for most of us the trials of the cold months are limited to putting on an extra layer and maybe taking a vitamin D tablet, for sufferers of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) it can be a very difficult time of year.

For more information about SAD, its symptoms and how to cope with it, we spoke to Dr Gary Bartlett, a GP, pro snowboarder and Bio-Synergy ambassador.

What is SAD?

“It’s something we come across in general practice that’s maybe under-diagnosed,” says Bartlett. “It’s essentially a kind of mood disorder, and it sparks symptoms of depression that occur in the winter. It generally starts when the clocks go back in October and can last right through to March, when the length of days starts to increase again.”

What causes SAD?

“It comes as result of the change of season – the shorter days and longer nights,” says Bartlett. “You get less exposure to sunlight during the winter season. That’s the primary cause of it.”

What symptoms does it cause?

“The symptoms are similar to those of depression,” says Bartlett. “General low mood, worsening anxiety, reduced concentration and a lack of motivation. They’re the main things, plus a general feeling of sadness.”

How Bio-Synergy Can Help

Unfortunately, you can’t force the sun to shine in the winter – and even if it does, most people have to spend most of the daylight hours indoors at work. If you’re experiencing symptoms of SAD you should go and see your doctor about it. They’ll be able to suggest possible treatment options.

If you are worried that you might be prone to SAD, you can also try preventive measures, like taking Bio-Energy’s 5-HTP and Limitless supplements, which both contain all-natural ingredients that can help combat some of the symptoms of SAD.

Bio-Synergy Limitless

What is it? A pill that contains a combination of natural ingredients designed to keep you focused and motivated, without having to take a prescription drug or chug down a sugary energy drink. It’s a nootropic supplement, which means it targets cognitive function.

Why take it? If you’re struggling to focus and generally lacking motivation in your work and family life, Bio-Synergy’s Limitless pills can help lift you out of that lethargy, so you don’t have to wait until spring to rattle through the many tasks on your to-do list.
