I was introduced to The North Face Women's Crew Run Wind Anorak (normally $ 90, but on sale right now for $ 63) one fateful day this past April. I was at the brand’s showroom in New York City, getting a sneak peek at the new apparel that would be launching over the next couple of months. When I left to go back to my office, I got to take one of these color-blocked, wind- and water-repellent anoraks (a cooler name for a hooded pullover jacket) with me.
To be honest, I've never really been into the windbreaker look—I'll forever be a hoodie girl—but I was willing to try it out since I was really feeling the retro color-block design (I have the black, white, and yellow version) and it seemed like a useful pullover I could wear in a few different scenarios. Now, a few months later, I can truly say that I've worn the anorak at least every other week—many of my co-workers can attest to this. It's way more versatile than I ever could have imagined and makes for a great addition to my wardrobe, since I'm a huge fan of wearing items that can go with just about anything. It also goes great with my SZA-inspired hiking boots, as evidenced by the photo at the top of this page.
It's so easy to transition the anorak from workout to hangout, thanks to a few built-in performance features. Not only is it ridiculously lightweight, but it's also lined with mesh paneling to help increase air flow—important so you don't overheat if you start sweating in it. These features also make it a great jacket to carry around in the summer and throw on when the temps drop a bit at night (you know, that all-important summer jacket that everyone always forgets to bring with them). I'm also looking forward to rocking it on cool summer mornings—whether on a run or walk, or just relaxing outside somewhere (preferably with an ocean breeze).
The jacket is also wind-resistant and water-repellent, which means I've got some built-in protection just in case I get caught in the rain during an outdoor run.
The big kangaroo pocket that holds just about everything is arguably my favorite feature. Seriously—this pocket is so roomy that I can stash all my stuff, including my keys, cell phone, and even my wallet when I don't feel like carrying a purse around.
The very best thing about this outerwear piece? It's 30 percent off its original price right now.
