The New Adidas Ultraboost 21 Packs In More Bouncy Boost Cushioning Than Ever Before

If you’re a fan of the Adidas Ultraboost line of running shoes, it’s probably for one of two reasons. The first is style, since the Ultraboost is a popular option for casual wear as well as running. The second is the Boost cushioning, which is bouncy and incredibly durable, allowing you to rack up the miles in comfort.

We can’t really decide whether the exaggerated heel of the Ultraboost 21 improves its looks. However, if you love the Ultraboost because of its cushioning, the new version of the shoe is sure to excite you. The larger heel means more Boost foam can be packed into the shoe.

There is 6% more Boost foam in this shoe than in the Ultraboost 20, which might not sound like much, but there was already a lot of Boost in the previous shoe. The foam is renowned for its energy-returning properties, and the comfortable and bouncy ride it produces is ideal for cruising along on training runs.

Another feature on the shoe is the redesigned Linear Energy Push system, which stiffens a section of the midsole so it is more responsive, especially in the forefoot. This should make the Ultraboost 21 better for faster running, but given that the shoe comes in at 340g for a UK 8.5, it’s going to be too heavy for most runners to do fast training and races.

The upper on the Ultraboost 21 is made from Adidas’s Primeknit+, which wraps the foot snugly like a sock, but has reinforced sections to make sure your foot doesn’t slide around when taking tight turns. The upper consists partly of Primeblue, which is made using recycled plastic intercepted on its way to the ocean.

As with most Adidas running shoes, the outsole is made from Continental rubber, which provides excellent grip even on wet pavements and has proved highly durable in our experience. Coupled with the long-lasting Boost foam, the Ultraboost 21 looks likely to be a shoe that you’ll be able to log many hundreds of happy miles in without it wearing down – just like its predecessors.
